CONGRATULATION to Steve Dunn, for his selection to the Australian “School Boys under 18” selection. The committee and coach and manager of Marlin Coast Rangers are proud to have such a gifted player in the squad.
Honourable mention also goes to Tom Beverley, for his effort as captain of the Queensland School Boys team and only missing selection for the Australian team by the smallest of a margin.

I have attached some information from Tom Booy from CDSA regarding the proposed plan that is to be put before councillors at a special workshop on the 22nd April. This plan will ultimately destroy any chance we have of developing Soccer further in the Far North.
CDSA are asking that we pass this information on to all of our members & ask them to email any councillor they will, or all if they like and express our concerns regarding the unfair nature of this development.
Tom has listed some discussion points that people can use or they can use their own if they like. Please anything that you write to the councillors needs to be polite and constructive, as anything rude or demeaning will simply put them further offside than they already are.
For those that are unsure of what is planned, cricket wish to have year round use of some of the fields at Endeavour Park, meaning that soccer would lose the area directly in front of the cricket clubhouse which is at the northern end of the fields. That would mean that fields 5, 6 , 7 and 8 would be lost to soccer and field 4 would have to be adjusted. To compensate for this loss, soccer is expected to relocate the fields to the carpark that is on the opposite side to the Colonial Club, meaning that all of those beautiful big trees would be no longer be there. Please have your say and make the councillors understand that both cricket and soccer should have their own facilities, just not at the same venue.
CAIRNS CITY COUNCILLORS E-MAIL
When sending e-mail’s to Councillors keep it brief, because too much text and they will not read it all.
Use any of the points mentioned on the next page, use one point and next time use another point.
The councillors meeting to discuss Endeavour Park is 22nd April 09, so please send e-mails before that date and express concern about the report from Council’s Sport & Rec. Committee About to be presented to the Councillors.
This report will take land away from CDSA with 2300 players (currently desperately requires more land )and will give it to Junior cricket, who have 3 or very occasional 4 games at Endeavour Park.
The report proposes dual use of sporting grounds, CDSA has experienced nothing but problems for 25 years, with cricket with a large number of issues still unresolved after 25 years. Including a current problem over water charges.
Every year there are clashes at the beginning and at the end of lease period.
Cricket use prevents soccer for providing shady areas for soccer players, parents & spectators.
There are always arguments over maintenance – primarily the fence
The current situation is a perfect example that multi use does not work.
Soccer as the largest junior sport in Cairns, deserves a home on its own.
Dual occupancy prevents our Center of Exellence to run while cricket is using the fields. This severly hinders our development program.
Dual occupancy prevents proper maintenance, grounds cannot be fertilised and maintained be cause they are always in use.
Constant arguments about maintenance responsibilities
Grounds cannot be fully utilised because of concrete cricket pitches in the middle of soccer fields.
First Week Rap up from the President Dear MCR F.C. Members,The season for the seniors has started with the first games taken place last week Friday 3. April and on Sunday 5. April. The games were played at the Marlin Coast Rangers ground here at Trinity Beach. Unfortunately, we failed to adequately announce the games but I hope that the majority of you did get to know about it. The committee will make some extra effort for the future to advertise our home games properly. Please have a look out for some information on our website as well as at the entrance to our grounds.
Last Friday night saw our ladies take on the team from Edge Hill. Unfortunately, they did not have such a good start. The result was 0:8 and with that, all three points went to Edge Hill. The coach, no other then our own “Super Ken” promised, he’ll do everything necessary to turn around the team and be successful at the next game. We’re all anticipating some great results to come up in the future. Heads up ladies, your time is just around the corner. I can see those points rolling in, game after game. I’m behind you all the way.
It looked a bit different on the same night, when the second division took on Port Douglas. They have had a friendly game just a week earlier and lost out 0:2 on that day. But Friday was a different story. Not only learnt the players from their previous mistakes, the also took away all three points. The result, 3:2 for MCR, was a well fought one, and I’d like to congratulate the entire team for their effort. Well done guys!!!!
Sunday saw our Premier Division in action. First our youth brigade. Having seemingly a difficult start, they turned and displayed a very entertaining game and ended up with three points and beat Edge Hill 5:2. Having seen those boys play in the heat of the day at 1 PM, the worst time for any game, I‘m proud to say they did come up with a stunning result. Although they looked a bit weary and tired towards the end, they did pull it off. Keep it up boys.
The Reserves had a bit of a harder fight on their hands. But a 1:0 win and three points made them come out on top. Let us hope this continuous on this season. Well done and congratulations.
Now we get to the Premiers. What a game. At times challenging and exciting, yet, at other times plainly ordinary. They had their chances, but excellent goalkeeping by Edge Hill kept them at bay and Edge Hill in the game. They seem to be a bit tired during the last 10 minutes. Was it “Saturday night out”, or just the fitness? Or could it be not following the coaches instructions? Or maybe still the heat of the day? Whatever it was, I’m sure they know better the reasons for giving up 2 points.
The result 2:2 gave them 1 point and surpassed last year’s first game result. I’m positive that they will be a much better team the next time around. I’ve seen them, they can work wonders, if they want to.
That’s all for this weekend.
On another note.
We have had our Grassroots coaching course last Monday night at the club. I have counted 12 participants at this seminar and I’m happy to say, they all had a good time, it seemed. The coach conducting the course was happy with the participants and is looking forward to do the next level of coaching, which is the Junior level licence. All participant are getting a certificate for the Grassroots course and will automatically be registered with the FFA in their coaching data base. They will get their coaches ID # and receive updates on a regular basis as they are available from the FFA.
All coaches, plus anyone else interested, will be able to attend the Junior level licence course. This will take place sometime in May at our grounds at Trinity Beach. Please contact Steve Meath if you’re interested and care about the coaching at our club and like to improve the overall standard at our club. Those are your children, so be part of their progress.
That’s all folks.
Yours in the world game!! Heinz Kach
