Marlin Coast Rangers Ladies Team
Ladies Team 2009

Round 4, Game 5
Marlin Coast vs Mareeba
Last game of the 2009 season, woot woo and it was the
bottom of the ladder clash with Mareeba at our home ground. It was a bit of
a nothing game with neither team able to make the top 4 this year and I was
half expecting Mareeba to not show up at all but they did and with about 5
minutes before KO they came out of the sheds. It wasn’t until we came onto
the main field that we noticed that they only had 7 players and to their
credit they wanted to play with what they had. At that point a few of us
thought that the game was going to be a walkover…. I thought otherwise!!
First half started and from then I could sense that
some of the girls we not taking it too seriously, obviously we weren’t
playing a grand final but it wasn’t a training session either. We were all
over the place, all the little simple elements of soccer we couldn’t get
right. Mareeba players were getting to the ball first, they were passing it
around us making it look easy and they were the ones with 6 players….. it
was extremely frustrating to watch, seeing things happen that are not
usually part of our game and we soon got punished for it because Mareeba
were the first to score, yes that’s right with 7 players in total they got
the first goal. We had most of the control of the ball passing it from side
to side and attacking their goal on numerous occasions but our ability to
get that ball in the net was very poor, it just wasn’t happening. Then to
add insult to injury Mareeba scored again!!!! I was not impressed and I
wasn’t the only one, I didn’t want to look at the sideline because I was
sure coach Ken was probably pulling his hair out in frustration as well.
Then we finally got our act together a little bit as Rochelle got our first
goal. Still we went to the half time break 1 goal behind with the score 2 –
1 to Mareeba.
After sorting through our mistakes of the first half on
our own without coach Ken we seemed to start the second half a little
better. We then lost our little eveready player Miyuki after a Mareeba
player cleaned her up. So we were down to 11 players, which shouldn’t have
been a problem, but you should never under estimate the underdog! It didn’t
take long and after a good passage of play a ball was crossed in and finally
Amy finished it off to level the game and give us a little bit of
inspiration. We started to dominate for the first time of the match and
then it was Nadine who put us in the lead after drilling a free kick low and
hard to the right side of the goal. Mareeba were unable to convert their
few chances and I think they were probably running out of steam but still
they kept fighting. Anna was the last to score for us when she decided to
have a run from the back beating a couple of player and finished it off
nicely over the keeper’s head.
Final score was 4 –2 to Marlin Coast, yay we finished
with a win for the last game of the season. Mind you we only just got there
we were very lucky to get away with it and by no means was it a performance
I’d ever like us to repeat.
I would like to say a very BIG Thank You to coach Ken
Gibbs for all his efforts this year, we didn’t make the 4 this year but I’m
sure next year will be a different story. Another BIG Thanks to Di & Tony
for washing our uniforms and getting them ready for us each game. Also BIG
Thanks to Renee for her coaching assistance, tips and advice all year.
Last but not least Thanks to all the girls in the team
who have made it yet another enjoyable season at Marlin Coast especially
Rosalyn who put her hand up early in the season to have a go at goal keeper
and she did a fantastic job, I don’t know what we would have done without
her! Hope to see you all next year.

Round 4, Game 4
Marlin Coast v Leichhardt
Down to the second last game of the season, not that
I’m counting… unfortunately though it doesn’t look like we will be able to
get ourselves off the bottom of the ladder this year. Not through the lack
of trying though!! It’s encouraging to see that all the girls are still
putting in plenty of G & D (Guts & Determination) right to the end of the
season.
This week we’re up against Leichhardt at home knowing
full well it was going to be tough game. The first half was fairly fast but
we held our own quite well even though Leichhardt were the first to score.
This time it spurred us on to pick up our game and get it under control,
which was a good thing! We stepped up and started to actually play better
getting our back line under control and making sure we had each Leichhardt
player marked up when they were attacking. As half time approached I felt
we had things under control and we were going to go to the half time break
only 1 goal down but that was soon cut short. Leichhardt attacked our goal
and in the process one of their players was fouled in the goal box well
that’s what the referee decided anyway therefore he awarded a penalty and no
amount of shouting at him was going to make him change his mind. Lets just
say a certain player was not happy with the decision….oops!! so at half
time it was 2 nil to Leichhardt
We came back out after half time with a little
confidence, positive that we would still be able to put up a good fight and
try to get a couple of goals back at least. As usual our centre midfield
players (Lauretta, Rochelle, Miyuki) did a fine job trying to create chances
and also dropping back and defending when needed as well. Our hopes of
scoring some goals to get back in the game were soon crushed when Leichhardt
scored their third goal stamping their authority on the match. To our
credit we continued to keep working but it wasn’t enough and Leichhardt got
the fourth and final goal of the match that almost took our keeper Rosalyn’s
head off in the process. Without our great keeper Rosalyn the score would
have been a lot more!
The final score was 4 nil to Leichhardt.
A gutsy effort from everyone in particular Ken thought
Stacey, Rosalyn and Miyuki were the best performances this week.

Round 4, Game 3 Marlin Coast v
Stratford
Righto, 3rd game of the round and it’s was
off to Stratford for the local derby, well as local as you could get
anyway!! This game is always a good one….
Coming of the back of a thumping from Innisfail we knew
that we were better than that score line last week and this week were very
much determined not to loose.
The first half started well and for the first time in a
few weeks we were at full strength, which was promising. Our new formation
was also working well we had what I thought was a pretty solid line up.
From the start we were in control and were able to contain any of
Stratford’s attacking raids but they did manage to break through and score
the first goal of the match. Their 1 nil advantage didn’t last long, the
ball was played out to Kasey on the wing and she took on her defender ran it
down to the goal line where she then crossed it over into the goal box, it
sailed over the keepers head onto the sliding foot of Nadine Hunt who
finished it off. I can say from the back it looked fantastic, it all
appeared to unfold in slow motion; from start to finish it looked great.
That goal defiantly lifted everyone we all shifted up a gear and started to
control the game outplaying Stratford in all areas. Our second goal was
scored by Sarah, who again always manages to get her name on the score
sheet.
We went to the brake having a 1 goal advantage with the
score 2 – 1.
Second half we continued to have the upper hand
knocking the ball around and creating chances to further our lead. Around
10 minutes into the second half we unfortunately lost Anna due to injury,
mind you she did extremely well to play as long as she did but the change
upset our defence a little bit and we lost a bit of momentum. Stratford
then took advantage of the change and they got another goal to take the
score to 2 all. We picked ourselves back up and again started to play
better and tried to stop Stratford’s momentum from going any further. Our
defence was working well containing their forwards and we also managed to
turn our defence into attack trying our best to get the winning goal. With
about 10 minutes to go it was Stratford who got the wining goal, well they
didn’t actually get it more like it was given to them. Due to an accidental
handball (sorry!!!) in the goal box Stratford converted the penalty only
just, Rosalyn did very well but didn’t quite keep it out.
The final result was 3 – 2 to Stratford.
After everyone played such a great game it was
disappointing to have the game end with that result. Best performances this
week were Laura, Miyuki and Anna.

Round 4, Game 2 Marlin Coast v
Innisfail
The last time we met Innisfail was on their home ground
and we came away with a 1 nil win, so we knew that we could put up a decent
fight and try to again get the points from the game.
The start of the game was crazy and we basically handed
Innisfail their first 2 goals with some really sloppy play at the back that
was the start of my worst game of the season that I unfortunately wasn’t
able to turn around. (Sorry girls!!) To our credit though we hit back with
2 great goals, the first was again a great individual effort from Sarah who
always manages to get through the oppositions defence making it look easy!
The second goal came from an excellent free kick from Kasey as she lobbed it
in at the keeper and Trish was in a brilliant position to head it into the
goal. At this stage we may have been about half way through the first half
and already the game was at 2 all. Innisfail were the next to score with
the first of their unstoppable goals and then it was our turn, our third
goal came from a penalty which Lauretta stepped up to and confidently put it
in the back of the net. That took the score to 3 all with even the referee
commenting that if we keep this up he will need a bigger notebook! True to
form Innisfail hit back again and put away another 2 goals before the half
time whistle blew. So at half time we headed to the sheds down by 2 with
the score at 5-3.
After a deserved half time thrashing by the coach we
came back out knowing that we had a lot of work ahead of us to try and
salvage some points from the match. It unfortunately didn’t play out that
way for us though; our back line lacked its usual confidence and Innisfail
were the ones to score in the second half. They managed to add a further 2
goals to their tally taking the score to 7-3, we came close to getting some
goals ourselves but not quite close enough. To Innisfail’s credit some of
their goals where freakish, and as much as our keeper Rosalyn tried they
where unstoppable.
So as the full time whistle blew the score was 7-3 to
Innisfail. One good point we can take out of the game was at least we where
able to score some goals ourselves!!!
Best performances this week went to Lauretta, Sarah &
Trish.

Round 4, Game 1 Marlin Coast v
Edge Hill
This game was the start of the fourth and final round
of this years FNQ soccer competition, with only five games remaining we are
determined to get ourselves off the bottom of the ladder and not take out
the wooden spoon for this year. It will be a tough thing to achieve but I
know the girls are up for the challenge.
We travelled to Edge Hill and were confident we could
get a good result considering the last time we played here we had a 1 all
draw, so with a new formation in place we were ready to get the game under
way.
The first half was defiantly ours to win, we played
very well passing the ball from side to side switching play and producing
many attempts on goal. The communication between us was very good also and
that’s what we needed to be able to control Edge Hills style of play. We
were the first side to score with some great work in the midfield the ball
was played out to the wing and crossed in and a few players were there to
finish it off, but it was Lauretta who got there first. We then went to the
break very confident and 1 nil up.
Unfortunately the half time break was not good for us
we came back on the field a little worn out, is probably the best way to
describe it, we didn’t have our first half intensity and that allowed Edge
Hill back in the game and they soon scored the equaliser. That goal put a
big dent in our confidence and we dropped our heads a little and were unable
to fight back. Edge Hill was then able to put another 3 goals away and
stamped their authority on the match. A couple of silly mistakes cost us
but we are currently trying different players in new positions so it very
much a learning curve for all those involved.
Best performances this week go to Laruretta, Sarah &
Miyuki, and great work also from the rest of the team.

Round 3, Game 5 Marlin Coast v
Mareeba
Last game of round 3 and we were at home against
Mareeba and yet again injury and sickness took its toll as we only had 11
players, no subs…..
As usual the first half was end to end with both teams
having plenty of opportunities to get the first goal. We had a goal
disallowed due to the linesman signalling that we were offside but we
continued to keep attacking Mareeba’s goal. Finally just before the whistle
for half time Sarah got the breakthrough and we went to the dressing room
with a 1 nil advantage.
The second half was a bit of a melt down I’m not sure
exactly what happened but we just lost our way. Mareeba got their equaliser
early in the second half and we dropped our heads then after their second
goal we didn’t really recover from that point. Not having any fresh legs on
the sideline didn’t help us either and we were unable to fight back as we
usually do. Mareeba managed to get a further 2 goals and the final result
was 4 – 1 to Mareeba.
Overall it was a gallant effort on our behalf, our
midfield had a solid game and Lauretta, Sarah and Miyuki as best
performances this week.

Round 3, Game 4 Marlin Coast v Leichhardt
Back to a Friday night game and we travelled over to
Leichhardt this week to take on the competition leaders and most probably
this years premiers. We were down a couple of our usual players due to
injury and travel, one player shouldn’t of played at all and ignored Dr’s
suggestion not to play but the one that takes the cake is our illustrious
captain Sarah who was not only running late she went to the wrong ground!!!!
Yes she thought we were playing at home this week…… hmmm. So it wasn’t
looking good for us at all.
As the game began we were on the back foot, Leichhardt
were at there usual best and quickly dominated while we showed signs that we
were defiantly off our game. Simple things weren’t working for us and we
lacked enthusiasm for some reason, we just weren’t in the game at all.
Leichhardt’s first goal came from a dubious decision from the referee to
award a penalty off a handball in the box that was never a handball, but you
can’t argue with a referee although I tried! Anyway from there things
didn’t improve for us and later in the half Leichhardt put away another goal
and we went to the break 2 nil down.
Second half started much the same as the first but this
time Leichhardt put their 3rd goal away within the first minute
and crushed any chance for us to salvage any points from the game. We did
manage to put some pressure on Leichhardt’s defence over the course of the
second half but unfortunately not quite enough to get a goal back.
Leichhardt put their 4th and final goal away and that was the
game, final score was 4 nil to Leichhardt. In patches our second half was
better with a few players having good games, special mention to Nadine for
making it through the game after defying Dr’s orders.
Best performances this week were Laura, Rosalyn and
Amy.
Round 3, Game 3 Marlin Coast v Stratford
Coming off our win against Innisfail last week moral
and team spirit was still high. Which should have given us a bit of a kick
start for this weeks line up against Stratford but it didn’t appear to help
us much at all!
First half started slow and Stratford didn’t come at us
like most teams usually do, so maybe the day game had the same effects on
both teams! Our line up this week was very impressive and we were able to
mix it with Stratford for most of the game but they were the ones who scored
first. We just seemed to lack our usual enthusiasm and determination to be
first to the ball and that did cost us especially defending our goal, as
Stratford were able to get 2 goals. So the score at half time was 2 nil to
Stratford.
Our second half was an improvement on the first half
and we did put more effort in and found that when that happens we get good
results. Sarah was the first to score after some great attack down the
right side, with that goal we lifted as usual and continued to attack.
Stratford also had their chances and some were a little to close for comfort
but we did well to keep them out. Nadine got our second goal late in the
second half to make it 2 all and again we lifted and almost got a third
goal. Unfortunately Stratford were on the attack again and managed to get
their third goal with only a few minutes remaining in the game, we did try
to get another goal back but time was against us and as the full time
whistle went the score was 3 – 2 in Stratford favour.
The coaches pick for outstanding performances this week
went to Miyuki, Sarah & Nadine

Round 3, Game 2 Marlin Coast v Innisfail
Wow where do I start….. We travelled about 100 km’s for
our 8.30pm game in Innisfail on Friday night and upon getting out of the
comfort of our cars we were greeted by a very chilly breeze and to be honest
the thought of staying in the dressing sheds did cross our minds!!
We knew that we had tough game ahead of us with
Innisfail currently sitting in second position on the ladder and travelling
down there the results haven’t gone in our favour before.
As predicted we were on the back foot from the very
start of the game as Innisfail attacked in their usual manner with players
coming at us from all angles, it took us a few minutes to get things
organised but once we did our defence and back line in particular did a
great job in squashing Innisfail’s raids. Once again Rosalyn (our part-time
keeper) also played a fantastic game in keeping Innisfail scoreless in the
first half pulling off some great saves. We did manage to put some pressure
on Innisfail’s defence and test out their keeper as well but it wasn’t quite
enough and both teams went to the break locked at nil all.
The second half started much the same as the first but
we were slightly more confident and determined to at least come away with a
draw. Again our defence worked tirelessly, great communication, some well
timed slide tackles and the marking of players made sure that there were no
Innisfail players running free. In doing so Innisfail got frustrated and
argumentative which worked in our favour as they continued to take shots
further away from goal but Rosalyn was always ready and continued to have a
great game in goals. As for our attack well what can I say, they continued
to create opportunities especially late in the game. Then with about 5 mins
to go after some great work in the midfield to get the ball out to the right
hand side the ball was crossed in and finally finished off by Sarah. As you
can imagine we were very happy to get that goal in, after our celebrations
we lifted an extra couple of notches and defended like crazy to keep
Innisfail from getting any chance to equalise. Then the whistle went and we
had done it….. 1 – 0 WIN.
A great result and everyone had an excellent game, we
travelled to Innisfail with only 2 reserves and we lost 1 of those late in
the first half so that showed just how determined we can be. Coach Ken was
extremely happy and proud of all his players and said that the whole team
had their best performance this week.

Marlin Coast vs. Mareeba
Saturday afternoon in Mareeba and just to make it a
little worse it is un-seasonally hotter than the June averages!!!! So it
wasn’t very pleasant conditions to play in…. but I’m not making excuses, we
played well but it just didn’t quite come together for us in the end.
First half we battled well knowing that it’s always a
tough and physical game against Mareeba I thought we defiantly had the upper
hand, controlling the ball and having plenty of shots but unfortunately
their keeper did a very good job denying us getting any goals. With the
wind playing a big part we found it difficult to get the right accuracy on
our passes and in most cases the ball beat us to the goal line before we
could get to it. Our first and unfortunately only goal came from some great
work by Lauretta running at goal only to have her first, second and maybe
third shot saved by the keeper but our on the spot Miyuki was there to
finally knock the ball in the net.
We continued to attack but were unable to capitalise on
our chances.
In the second half we didn’t play as well and I think
the conditions took their toll on us all. We continued to attack and
running against the wind proved a little more difficult to get our long
balls through. Our attack was still probing the Mareeba defence but again
their keeper continued her good form from the first half. Mareeba’s
equaliser came about halfway through the second half when Kaisey came across
in cover defence and unfortunately the referee saw it as foul play and
awarded a penalty. Our keeper Lauren picked the right way but it was just
out of reach for her to get a hand to. At that point we did seem to drop
our heads a little and we lost our way for a while and not long after that
Mareeba were able to get their winning goal.
In the end the result was 2 –1 to Mareeba to wrap up
the end of round 2. Coach Ken was happy with the way we played and said we
all played well with special mention to Trish and Miyuki for best
performances in the game. Unlucky girls hopefully we can turn things around
in our favour for the next 2 rounds.

MCR Match Report
Sorry for those who have been waiting for match reports
but I have been away for a couple of games and was unable to report on the
matches. In brief the results for those couple of games didn’t go our way.
Friday (29th May) night against Innisfail
the result was a well played 2 all draw with even the referee commenting
that it was the best game he had seen so far this year.
Friday (12th June) night against Stratford
we lost 2 nil
Friday (19th June) night against Leichhardt
we lost 1 nil
Round 2, Game
1 Marlin Coast v Edge Hill
It looks like the trip to Mareeba last weekend has
given us the inspiration and determination that we have been lacking in our
first 4 games.
We travelled to Edge Hill to kick off round 2, the last
time we met at home Edge Hill beat us convincingly and we were very keen not
to let that happen again.
We started the game well and had several attacking runs
at Edge Hills goal but some were not on target and the goalkeeper cleaned
the others up. One of our best chances in the first half was a fantastic
shot from Anna that sailed over everyone including the keeper, only to see
the ball hit the crossbar. We went to the break very confident with the
score locked at nil all knowing that we were the dominant team.
The second half we started a little slow and Edge Hill
came out from the break a different team showing much more enthusiasm than
the first half. Edge Hill gained a little momentum and unfortunately they
were allowed to get a shot on goal that got through, we dropped our heads a
little but I could still feel that we were confident and very capable of
fighting back.
Due to a free kick which we got for an Edge Hill player
trying to hold onto Lauretta’s arm which I can only say Ret was not very
happy about and we all witnessed “Angry Ret” come out and the Referee had to
step in and have a talk to her to calm her down. Anna took the free kick
and sent it out to Nadine’s wing, Nadine ran it down to the goal line and
crossed it in over the keepers head and in the back of the net to give us
the equalizer.
The game continued to go from end to end but neither
team was able to get another goal and as the full time whistle went the
score remained at one all. So to come away with a point from a team that is
sitting at the top of the table was a fantastic effort for us and we were
very happy with the result.
Coach Ken Gibbs was impressed with the whole teams
effort on Friday night considering last time we met Edge Hill they had
beaten us 8 nil his comments were that our back line in particular had a
great game.
This weeks outstanding performances were Stacey, Nadine
& Sarah.

Round 1, Game
5 Marlin Coast v Mareeba
Well it finally happened we had a win!!!! Excellent
game girls everyone had a great game and it tastes oh so much sweeter
beating them on their own field.
It has taken us 5 games but travelling to Mareeba on a
Sunday did the trick although it was hard work, to play at 1.30pm after all
our games so far this year have been on a Friday night.
We started well and once again we had a different
goalie this week, Rosalyn Agostino put her hand up earlier in the week to
have a go….and man are we so glad she did! In the first few minutes of the
game a Mareeba striker had a shot on goal and it was on it’s way in until
Rosalyn jumped up and deflected it over the crossbar and I think from that
point on we lifted an extra notch and produced our best game so far. We
knocked the ball around using the full width of Mareeba’s big field to our
advantage creating numerous chances to put the ball in the net.
The first goal came from a run down the sideline that
was crossed in and finally finished of by Sarah Edwards who led by example
and opened up our scoring account. The game continued to go from one end to
the other with Mareeba having some chances on goal but between our solid
defence and excellent goal keeping from Rosalyn we were able to keep them
from scoring. Our second goal came from an excellent break through and
determination from Lauren James who took on Mareeba’s defence and finished
with a powerful shot on goal.
So we went to the break 2 goals up.
In the second half you could tell both teams were
feeling the affects of the dry warm conditions and the pace of the game was
not quite the same as the first half. Still the game continued to be played
in our advantage as we continued to control the ball and move it around the
field well using the big park to our favour. Mareeba continued to try and
attack but most of those were diffused in the middle of the park with
Lauretta Dowling having an excellent game getting involved in just about
everything and when Sarah joined her in the middle of the park the both of
them continued to work well together.
Our third goal came from a free kick which was a few
meters outside the 18yard box and Anna Lundgren stepped up to take it, at
first glimpse we thought it was going too long but the wind got hold of the
ball and it sailed over the keepers head into the net. That capped of an
outstanding performance for Anna who again was all over the park defending
and attacking and sealed our win with her first ever goal in her career, I’m
sure it won’t be the last.
Great game girls now we have to continue the good work.
#13
Round 1, Game 4 Marlin Coast v
Leichhardt.
Another game played and unfortunately MCR Ladies were
unable to take any points away from Leichhardt. It was a tough ask and we
thought we might be able to upset the competition leaders but it didn’t play
out that way.
Leichhardt showed us why they are at the top of the
table with some pinpoint passing and moving the ball around the park. We
defended well not allowing Leichhardt to break through our back line but a
shot from well outside the 18yard box landed in the top corner of our goal
after about 5 minutes and burst our bubble a bit. Leichhardt’s next goal
was again a shot from outside the 18yard that skidded across the wet grass
wrong footing our keeper. Still with our heads up we all continued to work
hard and try to make our way up the other end of the park and put some
pressure on Leichhardt’s defence. In a few instances our triangle passing
came off and we started to move the ball around better. Leichhardt’s third
goal came from one of us, in an attempted goalmouth clearance, which
deflected off another player and ended up in our goal. So we did eventually
score a goal…it just happened to be in our own goal!!! Unlucky girls.
Towards the end of the half Leichhardt were able to put another goal in the
net from a corner and a goalmouth scramble.
At half time we had a change of keeper, which allowed
Laura a run on the field and Lauren took over in goals. The second half was
a big improvement on the first, we controlled the ball around the park and
put together numerous attacking raids but we were unable to put the ball in
the goal. One thing we did learn Friday night was when Lauretta gets
injured “Don’t Touch”! Earlier in the match Ret’s head got in the way of
the ball (the nose was alright though) and in the second half Ret got one in
the stomach and our super midfielder was left gasping for air and letting
everyone know not to touch but after a quick stint on the side line she was
back to her best.
We continued to create chances and we dominated
possession in the second half with everybody working hard. Lauren had a
gutsy game showing no mercery on a couple of occasions diving on the ball to
ensure Leichhardt didn’t score.
At the final whistle the score was 4 – 0 to Leichhardt
and those goals all came in the first half so our hard work showed in the
second half.
Outstanding performances this week goes to Anna
Lundgren and Kaisey Gibbs both did great jobs in the back line.
#13
Round 1, Game 3 Marlin Coast v
Stratford
Going into this match both teams had still not
registered a win which to give us a little more confidence and that showed
on the field.
The game started at a fast pace but we were up to the
task, for about the first 20 minutes we held our shape and diffused the
attacking raids Stratford produced. Soon after that Stratford were able to
get a shot on goal to that our other stand in keeper Laura Fewtrell got a
hand to it but it just wasn’t enough and the ball rolled over the line.
After the goal we dropped our heads and lost our shape for a little while
but we managed to get it back before half time.
So we went to the break only 1 nil down but still very
much in the game.
The second half was an improvement on the first we had
more good patches of play than bad and our 2 centre midfielders Nadine Hunt
& Rochelle Powell did a great job keeping things rolling in the game. We
had a few chances but our shots were not quite on target. Stratford’s
second goal came from a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, the ball hit
the crossbar and came back into play, which was then headed into the goal.
After the goal we dropped our heads again but we did continue to work hard
unfortunately it just wasn’t quite enough to open up our scoring account.
We seemed to do a lot of defending once again and with
our back line performing well especially Anna Lundgren who did enough
running to complete a marathon this week! Thanks Anna good work. Another
solid performance this week was from our part time goalie Laura who did a
great job, Thanks Laura!
Now we are three games down with a win still eluding us
for now but each week we are improving as a team and it’s shown in the
results. Hopefully 1 week off and the return of a few players will do the
trick.
Standout performance this week goes to Rochelle Powell,
and to think this was only her third game in the ladies division. Great job
keep up the good work :o)

Round 1, Game 2 Marlin Coast v Innisfail.
As per usual it was a long and rainy drive to Innisfail in the dark but we all managed to arrive safely - well some of us just a little later than others…..oops!
The game started at a quick pace and before we knew it we were 2 goals down to which the slippery conditions didn’t help our new goalie. After the early battering we all settled into our positions and got the job done quite well. With special mention to go to Lauren ‘super’ James who pulled off a fantastic penalty save in her first game as goalie. We went to the break only 2 nil down but still confident we could get a result.
The second half looked promising with our attacking players making a few breaks and creating some opportunities but unfortunately we were unable to capitalise. Innisfail were able to turn it around in their favour and put 2 more goals in the back of the net and stomp out any chances of us taking any point’s home with us.
Over all this week we turned out an improved performance on our first game of the year. Taking into consideration that about half our team are young and new to the side and to come up against one of the form teams in our competition I think we had a good game. “Well done girls”.
Standout performance this week goes to Lauren ‘super’ James with too many other players to mention who worked hard.
Keep your heads up girls, I’m certain our first win is just around the corner!!
