Marlin Coast Rangers Youth
Youth
Round 1 game 6
Vs Leichhardt at Leichhardt
The boys took to the field with the promise of starting strongly but were
let down by a lack of a home team organised linesman which allowed a goal
from a player in an offside position in the 4th minute. After quickly
organising a linesman, the Coast boys were clearly still dazzled by allowing
a goal to the home team again in the 15th minute. A fierce tussled ensured
for the rest of the half with Coast withstanding a determined effort from
LCT sensing that Coast weren't on their game. A couple of of strikes on goal
from both sides to no avail with Coast finally finding the back of the net
with a great left foot from D. DiLucchio in the 40th minute. A dominating
next few minutes saw P. McGrath score in the 44th minute which took us to
the break at 2-2.
After the break, Coast concentrated on playing good football which
frustrated the opposition culminating in a successful penalty in the 50th
minute by P. McGrath. With a few missed chances from some great lead up
work, T. Meath was finally rewarded with a goal in the 55th minute. End to
end footy prevailed with some great saves by both keepers and although LCT
scored again in the 61st minute, Coast hung on to win a gutsy game of
football.

Round 1 / Match 2 Marlin Coast Rangers Vs Innisfail @ Innisfail 3pm
After taking to the field with only 1 sub and realizing the opposition had 5, the lads started slowly and lacked intent. After just a few minutes though, it was clear that Rangers were the better side to take to the pitch. Having started to string a few passes together, opportunity was realized when Tommy Meath slotted his first goal for Youth in the 25th minute. Josh De Nittis followed suit soon afterwards with a great goal in the 30th minute. A lapse in concentration allowed Innisfail back into the game before Rangers Centre Back was Red Carded for a handball as last defender which allowed Innisfail to find the back of the net with the ensuring penalty shot in the 41st minute. Clearly affected by being a man down, Rangers held on until the end of the half where a rousing chat by the coach, determined to see his charges get on with the job, set about reminding the lads they were the better side on the pitch and that if they believed in themselves, they would go on to win and win well. The 2nd half initially saw a different Rangers side take to the pitch however, where the intensity had risen, the execution was lacking and the Rangers made hard work of it allowing Innisfail a few long range shots to no avail. Rangers keeper, Oliver, did well to save 2 shots on goal before a successful penalty shot awarded to Jake Pennell settled the boys down in the 31st minute. Excellent lead up work by Josh De Nittis allowed Tommy Meath to slot his second goal in the 35th minute and the Rangers were home. In the 39th minute, Josh was brought down in the box and he handed the ball to Tom Meath who converted the penalty for his 3 goal. Two lads (Josh de Nittis & David De Lucchio) were rewarded for the efforts by taking the bench for the Reserve Squad and both saw game time.
